Donaire arrives in Manila


FIGHTER OF THE YEAR CONTENDER Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire flashes a big smile at the VIP lounge of Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 shortly after his arrival on Wednesday morning, following his sensational knockout victory against veteran Mexican fighter Jorge Arce in Houston, Texas, on Saturday. Donaire, who retained his World Boxing Organization super bantamweight belt, is a leading candidate for Fighter of the Year. Unless Mexican warrior Juan Manuel Marquez gets the nod for knocking out Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao. GRIG C. MONTEGRANDE

MANILA, Philippines—Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport early Wednesday from the United States following his third round stoppage of Mexican boxer Jorge Arce last Saturday night (Sunday morning here).

Donaire knocked Arce out cold with a patented left hook in the third round to keep his World Boxing Organization super bantamweight crown.
