GABRIEL Tiamson capitalized on a decisive break in the opening set to overpower top seed Miko Eala, 6-4, 6-2, and snare the boys’ 12-and-under title in the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Tennis Association age-group tennis championships at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center over the weekend.

That service break in the ninth game was all the second-seeded Tiamson, playing for De La Salle-Zobel, needed to assert himself on Eala and power his way to the crown.

Eala later gained a measure of consolation when he whitewashed Juan Miguel Jugo, 6-0, 6-0, for the 10-under unisex title.

Cebu’s Jan Godfrey Seno captured the boys’ 14-under crown after disposing of Justine Prulla, 6-2, 6-0, while Betto Orendain topped the boys’ 16-under class with a hard-earned 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 triumph over Stefan Suarez.

John Maverick Victoria downed Orendain, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, for the boys’ 18-under plum. Roxanne Resma grabbed the girls 18-under top prize with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Ma. Dominique Ong.
