National team mainstay Alvin Lobreguito captured the freestyle gold medal in the 55-kg division to lead Quezon City to the overall title of the recent Wrestling Association of the Philippines 2012 Buno 4th Quarter National Wrestling Championship at New Era University Gym.
A product of the “Champs for Joy” sports program, Lobreguito dominated his division to highlight QC’s romp as runaway winner with 415 points.
Ifugao Wrestling Team was a far second with 253 points, while Baguio City and Taytay, Rizal, finished tied for third with identical 241 points.
A total of 192 wrestlers saw action in the event, the WAP’s biggest ever meet in terms of participants.
Also sharing the spotlight were teenagers Joshua Gayuchan and Ruzzel Taguinay of Ifugao (Greco-Roman), 10-year-old Rexor Albario (freestyle) and 15-year-old Minalyn Foy-os of Baguio (women) who topped their respective events.
Foy-os is a contender for a berth in the national team to the 2014 Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China. Marc Anthony Reyes
