/ 01:05 AM January 06, 2013

THE INFLUENTIAL National Federation of Gamefowl Breeders (NFGB) will join the  international cockfight fever as it presents the “World Short Knife Championship 6-Cock Derby” on Jan. 18 at Arcontica Coliseum  in Dasmarinas, Cavite.

The short knife competition (1 and ½ inch gaffs are used) was first staged in Mexico in the 1960s and later adopted by neighboring states like Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Arizona, Oklahoma and California.

“The gamest roosters can be found in short knife events and the best-shuffling gamebirds have a big chance of winning,” said Gengen Arayata, president of Unified Cavite Breeders Association (UCBA), an affiliate of NFGB.
