NEW YORK—Lamar Odom tweeted his condolences to the family of a teenage boy who died from head injuries following a smash between a motorcycle and the limousine carrying the Los Angeles Lakers star player.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the young boys family,” Odom tweeted on his social network Twitter page on Tuesday.

The two-time NBA champion Odom was in New York City for a cousin’s funeral and had hired a car service to move him around the city, ESPN.com reported Tuesday. Odom is married to reality TV star wife Khloe Kardashian who was not with him at the time.

ESPN reported that police spokesman Paul Brown said a motorcyle allegedly tried to turn left in front of Odom’s vehicle when it hit the front bumper. The vehicle then went out of control and onto the sidewalk where it struck 15-year-old Awsaf Alvi Islam.
