FEU, UP pull off tough wins in UAAP men’s volleyball

MANILA, Philippines —  Karl Ian Dela Calzada dropped 23 points to steer Far Eastern University past La Salle 22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 26-28, 15-13 Sunday in the 75th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.

The Tamaraws ground it out to bag their seventh victory, with just one loss, as all but one scorers finished in double digits.

John Ian Depamaylo and Gene Lucky Margate chipped in 13 markers apiece while Paulo Deocampo and Alexis Faytaren added 12 and 11, respectively.


Christopher Antonio powered to a 30-point performance, 25 off spikes, but the Archer Spikers dropped to distant third with a 4-4 record.

Meanwhile, University of the Philippines edge Ateneo, 25-21, 17-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-10, in the other men’s match.

The Maroons, though, remain in the bottom three as they tied the Blue Eagles with a 2-6 record.
