MANILA, Philippines —  Ateneo kept the top spot in the 75th UAAP men’s football competition after a hardfought  2-1 victory over University of the Philippines on Sunday.

The Blue Eagles dropped their first point of the season, but still pulled through with the victory while the Maroons dropped to fourth place.

La Salle, meanwhile, clobbered cellar-dweller University of the East, 5-0, behind goals from brothers Gelo and Gio Diamante.

University of Santo Tomas likewise shutout National University, 4-0, in the final match of the day at the football fields at Ateneo.

In the women’s division, both matches between La Salle and Far Eastern University, UST and Ateneo, saw a scoreless draw.
