Arellano, EAC pick up big wins in NCAA women’s volleyball

MANILA, Philippines—Arellano and Emilio Aguinaldo College nailed crucial wins over separate rivals Monday in the NCAA Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Chiefs defeated Letran, 23-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-17, while the Lady Generals turned back College of St. Benilde, 15-25, 25-9, 25-13, 25-22.
Menchie Tubiera registered 21 points with five aces for Arellano, which locked up the fourth seed heading into the semifinals.
EAC banked on Charmille Belleza, who had 16 points, to help keep the Lady Generals in position for a twice-to-beat edge in the Final Four.
St. Benilde slipped out of the playoff picture at 5-4 behind Arellano’s 6-3 record.
The Lady Generals, who also drew 12 points from Ivy Carlos, tied Perpetual Help in first place at 8-1.
