Lady Maroons keep Lady Warriors winless in UAAP volleyball

MANILA, Philippines — University of the Philippines teetered on the brink of defeat but pushed on to nip University of the East 14-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-12 Sunday in the UAAP season 75 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Maroons, already out of the running with a 2-11, clawed back from a 0-2 set deficit to keep the Lady Warriors winless in 13 games.

But UP, though, after building a 7-14 lead in the fifth and decisive set, allowed UE to go on a dangerous 5-0 run before finally ending the match.

Nicole Tiamzon led with 17 points, including two service aces and the match-clinching attack. Jay Aliyah Ong added 14.

Ma. Dawis Leuseht, the Lady Warriors’ leading scorer, sizzled with 26 points, including six blocks, but on a losing cause. Shiesa Nebrida added 18.
