NU clouters claim finals slot
NATIONAL University pulled off a huge comeback to upend University of Santo Tomas, 12-7, yesterday and claim the last championship berth in the UAAP baseball tournament at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
The Bulldogs yielded six runs in the first inning, trailed 2-7 at the top of the third, before shutting out the Tigers in the next seven.
The Bulldogs’ victory set the stage for a rematch of last season’s finals where they downed the Ateneo Blue Eagles to cop their first championship since 1966.
The Eagles claimed the first title berth after topping the double-round eliminations with an 8-2 record, while the Bulldogs had to go through the playoffs against the Tigers after both teams wound up tied with 7-3 slates.
Game 1 of the best-of-three series is set Friday, also at the Rizal ballpark.
In women’s volleyball, University of the Philippines rallied from two sets down to clip winless University of the East, 14-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-12, yesterday at Filoil Flying V Arena.
Nicole Tiamzon had 17 hits to lead the already eliminated Lady Maroons (2-11).
