Arcilla, Anasta crush foes
Philippine team mainstays Johnny Arcilla and Elbert Anasta lived up to expectations by crushing Bobby Labrador and Expedito Lim Jr., 6-1, 6-3, yesterday to reach the men’s doubles quarterfinals of the Olivarez Cup at Olivarez Tennis Center in Sucat, Parañaque.
The top seeds, who played in the country’s first round win over Syria in the Davis Cup, will next face Radharani Reyes and Kristian Tenorio, who downed Josel Cabusas and Francis Patino, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8.
Second seeds Ronard Joven and Leander Lazaro, who got a free ride to the quarters when their opponents defaulted, moved up against Michael Madro and Fritz Verdad, who scored a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Chat Conta and Arnold Rodriguez.
In team play, Cebuana Lhuillier shut out Team Sports Scholarship Program, 7-0, to forge a title showdown with Team Olivarez.
