JRU drops bombs in the third period to upend CSB


MANILA, Philippines – Jose Rizal University used a big third quarter to trounce College of St. Benilde, 87-75, Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at the Arena in San Juan.

Paolo Pontejos scored 22 points, on six-of-nine shooting from long range, to go along with five rebounds and four assists off the bench for the Heavy Bombers, who broke the game wide open in the second half after outscoring the Blazers, 28-9.

JRU got off to a poor start as CSB capitalized and led 25-12, at the end of the first quarter before the Bombers regrouped and found their way back into the game.

Phillip Paniamogan added 18 points while Michael Mabulac recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for JRU, which logged its first win in three games.

CSB, which was led by Mark Romero’s 15 points, fell to 0-3.
