LAS VEGAS, Nevada — World Boxing Council champion Floyd Mayweather extended his perfect record to 44 victories Saturday, beating Robert Guerrero by unanimous decision in their welterweight title fight.

Mayweather, who was defending his title for the first time since serving close to three months in jail last year after being convicted of domestic violence, dominated Guerrero for the majority of the fight at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.

All three judges scored the 12-round fight 117-111 in favour of Mayweather.

In his first fight in a year, the 36-year-old Mayweather also snapped Guerrero’s 15-fight win streak dating back to 2005. While Mayweather improved to 44-0 with 26 knockouts, Guerrero fell to 31-2-1 with 18 wins inside the distance.

    Floyd obviously is a great fighter… but his historic dodging people during their prime will be brought-up and talked about after his retirement. I believe the only person capable of beating Floyd was Manny (Prime version)… there is no way of beating Floyd’s defensive style through “technical” boxing… and only incredible volume punching will be able to place a dent with such a style. Not saying that Manny will beat Floyd at their prime versions but volume punching might be the only way to penetrate great defense.

    I agree it was wrong (financial and legacy perspective) of Manny deciding on picking Marquez… but that’s his decision… and honestly – mas bilib ako since mas malaki ang chance na matalo sya… and mahirap talaga kalaban (para kay Manny) si Marquez. With regards to Floyd… when was the last time na yung kalaban nya was really a threat? I really do not remember a time when there was anyone who were really a threat… since all the fights he went in… was all planned and strategic… the fighters who were a threat for him didn’t fight him during their prime (an example was Mosley – but still he was able to catch Floyd).

    On a purist (boxing not as a business but as a sport) stand point – I’d rather have Manny’s way… since he’s not afraid of going against people who were really a threat. On a business end (strategically choosing opponents)… Floyd is a master.

      saan mo nakuha yang history mo? check mo ang boxing records mo para maging credible… realistic lang ang comment ng iba at hindi paninira sa kapwa pinoy. for the record, floyd fought the best during their prime – dela hoya, hatton, cotto on even and fair ground. si arum at paquiao puro conditional fight ang ginawa – catch-weight king si manny — pag maliliit ang kalaban, arum ensures na sa mabigat na dibisyon ang laban at pag malalaki ay sa mababang weight-class. kaya nga si cotto di na sya pinagbigyan na maka-ulit, lahat ng malalaking boxers like dela hoya, cotto, clotey at margarito mukhang malnourish dahil pumatol sa pera, although di umobra taktika nya ke marquez na akala nila ay babagal at easy target kung sa mabigat na weight-class magsusuntokan. manny is very good but age and technique overtook his ability.

    floyd is one smart, greedy, good, fast boxer.
    pacman will never beat floyd;
    ph boxers may have talent, speed, power, heart;
    but most if not all of them lack brains;
    pacquiao is the best example of that.

    • Admiral_Kid

      You’re right there.

    • piskay

      smart sya kasi pin ipili nya kalaban nya talunin,,ayaw susugal sa tingin nya na makatalo sa kanya,gaya ni manny.

      • Yet Jua

        floyd is the best no doubt….brain ,speed and power
        manny has power, speed but no counter attack and no brain too….

      • piskay

        the best runner siguro,at best sa yakapan,.best sa boring fight..mali ka yata na walang counter attack si manny,mayroon sya pero hinde nya style ang ganoon..hinde ka maging champions,kung ikaw ay bobo sa lahat ng sapito ng palakasan

  • Braincleaner

    Boring fixed fight. Mayweather has to pay for mediocre opponents to make him look good while evading boxers that are more deserving. The fight was in effect a sparring session whose winner everyone knew even before it got started. Boxing fans were rob again specially those who paid for PPV. The ex-convict is now counting his loot again. Money money money! Hahaha!

  • Hellomr

  • koolkid_inthehouse

    Dumb donkey win. What a snooze fight.

  • wawa2172

    Boring fight. Guerrero was paid to loss courtesy of Golden Boy Promotion. Congrats Floyd, unlike Manny you did use your brain hindi laban nang laban lamang. Manny loss to Bradley on Arums order, Marquez had the juice that made him stronger and beat Manny who was just to stupid to accept the fourth fight. Time to retire Manny, di ka kasing galing ni Floyd mag desisyon.

      • wawa2172

        Ah diutay lang gid ako kwarta pero na ko condo sa Taguig ug Two floor with three bedroom house sa CDO lain pa sa Iligan. Di man ko pareho ni Manny bilyonaryo pero simply lang gid ako life wala kabit he he he. Engineer ra man gud ko sa multinational company. Sure ko mangaranon pa ko sa imo he he he. But I pay my taxes dutifully and since I work in a private company I do not have to declare my net worth. I am already out of the topic but still Floyd too smart compare Manny in choosing who to fight.

    • sanjuan683

      • wawa2172

        The issue is whose smarter in staying as champion. It is Floyd and he is still in circulation with 5 more multimillion dollar fight on the list. Manny just let Arum choose who to fight since he is too busy in politics, showbiz and religious activities. He cannot have it all, It would have been better if he only choose boxing and simple relation with God. I admire Manny for giving honor to our country but he should know when to quit for his family else he could get hurts if he choose to fight again. He already have all the money he needs the lifetime and he don’t have to work hard anymore but live happy and simply.
