Pacquiao learns to pace himself

Manny Pacquiao has finally realized the value of moderation.

Unlike before, when he trained with wild abandon and pushed himself to exhaustion, Pacquiao now listens to what his body says.

Entering the crucial phase of preparation for his fourth showdown with Juan Manuel Marquez on Dec. 8, Pacquiao has learned to turn the switch off for the day to give his 33-year-old body time to recuperate for tougher grinds ahead of the welterweight pay-per-view battle at MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

“Before, it was always heavy training for me every day—morning and afternoon,” Pacquiao told GMA-7’s Chino Trinidad on Sunday (Monday in Manila) in Hollywood. “Now, I’ve learned to pace myself.”

Pacquiao no longer asks trainer Freddie Roach for more rounds with the mitts and for other training regimen when he feels his body can’t take any more pounding.

But when he’s in-sync, of course, Pacquiao reverts to his old training ways—without letup—at Roach’s Wild Card Gym.

While he has temporarily abandoned playing basketball these days, Pacquiao can’t ignore the opportunity to shoot balls with NBA Hall of Famers and Olympic gold medalists Charles Barkley, now a noted NBA analyst, and former superstar Reggie Miller on Monday.

The 47-year-old Miller, the TNT network commentator for the NBA, even joined Pacquiao in his early-morning run at Griffith Park in Hollywood, according to a TMZ report.

Asked about their playground shoot-out, Miller said Pacquiao definitely got game. “Not only is he the man in the ring, but he’s got an awesome jump shot too.”

Writing is an art.  Whereas the hype of over-exertion on training works before to excite fans that Manny is going all-guns blazing, this time that he does not seem to have such energy, the opposite can be made as if he’s taking time and listening to his body.  I don’t buy it.  He’s just plainly not as excited anymore and this is probably his last fight, win or loss.  So why work hard?  He will still probably win because Marquez is older and probably more tired.  Just doing the last hooray for these 2 boxers.

ganyan hinay hinay lang pag training. todo mo sa laban.

  • droccu

    In short…he’s getting old already…

Mahina na si Freddie, damay pati utak nya dahil sa kapansanan nito. Madadamay strategy nila laban ke JMM or kahit na sinong opponent. Manny should hire Michael Moorer back. With Moorer, he slice Hatton to pieces in just 2nd round. Why? Because Moorer see’s what Freddie & Manny cannot see on all sides. I’ve seen the video how Moorer train Manny, Because of Freddie’s ego, he let the guy go.

After Moorer’s departure, with the exception of Cotto, Manny’s performance went downhill.

Manny still got it. Matatapang taga mindanao. I believe in you. Don’t listen to the unhappy haters. Rest properly and yup knock marquez out, then invite him to your birthday party.

Pustahan talaga, kaya  yung mga mananaya ihanda na ninyo ang inyong SAHOD o kita sa isang BUWAN. Wag na munang bumili ng para sa PAMILYA.. unahin mo na ang SUGAL. Is it treason to hope that Marquez knocks the political indiscretions out of Pacquiao so our country shall win?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WN5TKEXEJ2VHQVNGP2CJEDLJH4 Jess

My UNSOLICITED ADVICE TO PACMAN, Don’t be aggressive this time. Marquez is a known counter puncher, so if you don’t attack him, he will be compelled to attack you, sira ang pinaghandaan niya. Kaya ang paghandaan mo ay paano mo siya i-ka counter punch. Hayaan mo lang kung ayaw niya kumilos, siya ang mawawalan hindi ikaw, remember gusto niyan makuha ang title mo bilang pound for pound king. This way, tabla manalo ka.
