THE FIRST ever National Master (NM) Glicerio Badilles Chess Cup 2009 Moalboal Open Chess tournament will kick off today at the Moalboal Municipal Hall.
The tournament is open to professional and amateur wood pushers but it is exclusive only for Barili and Santander residents.
The event is a tribute to the late National Master Asing Gliverio, a seven-time member of the Philippine chess team who competed in the World Chess Olympics.
The tournament will use a seven-round Swiss System format with the guidance of chief arbiter Odilon Badilles.
A total of P40,000 in cash and trophies will be given away to all the winners of the event. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
