ILLAM squads miss World Series finals

Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines ? The Philippines? hopes for a title in the 2009 World Series in the United States went up in smoke Saturday when the two International Little League Association of Manila (ILLAM) teams tumbled down in the semifinals of their respective divisions.

Texas eliminated ILLAM in the Senior League baseball World Series semifinal with a 6-1 victory in Maine.

A grand slam home run by Michael Resnick off Niklas Sarda in the first inning proved to be the difference as ILLAM, featuring members of the team that finished second in the Junior League division two years ago, only managed a single run thanks to Charles Catangui?s RBI single in the third inning.

In Kirkland, ILLAM blew its bid for the Junior League softball crown, falling behind in the early innings before losing to Puerto Rico, 7-3, in their semifinal duel. Cedelf P. Tupas
