MANILA, Philippines—Arellano University, the NCAA fifth placer, clashes with University of San Carlos on Wednesday at the start of the zonal competition of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League at the West Negros University Gym in Bacolod City.
The Chiefs loom as the heavy favorite with their formidable roster bannered by NCAA mythical five member Gio Ciriacruz, forward Andrian Celada, swingman Isaiah Ciriacruz and pint-sized playmaker Leo Anquillo, who stands just a shade over five feet.
The zonal tournament, one of two being held in the Visayas, dangles two slots to the Sweet 16 stage of the championship backed by Smart Communications and Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co.
Another zonal tournament is scheduled starting Nov. 6 in Cebu with Adamson University, University of Cebu, University of San Jose Recoletos and San Sebastian College-Cavite vying for two Sweet 16 slots.
