Wushu’s Rifani shines

Philippine Daily Inquirer

THE PHILIPPINES collected its third silver medal to surpass its previous best finish in the Asian Indoor Games.

Rhea May Rifani bagged a silver medal in the women’s 52-kilogram sanshou event and muay thai bets Zaidi Laruan and Jay Harold Gregorio seized bronze medals in the lightweight and welterweight divisions as the Filipinos posted a 1-gold, 3-silver, 5-bronze haul, an improvement from their 1-2-3 collection in Macau.

Rifani bowed to China’s Gong Jinlan, 0-2, at the Trinh Hoai Duc Gym while Laruan and Gregorio lost in the semifinals in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Philippines can add one more gold to its collection with Maricel Subang vying for the flyweight title in muay thai against Thailand’s Konnika Nuanboriboon. Cedelf P. Tupas
