Fifty athletes; ten golds.
Philippine Sports Commission chair Harry Angping is planning to help organize an elite pool of the country?s 50 finest athletes who will be trained for the Guangzhou Asian Games in November next year.
Angping said the gold medalists at the recent Laos Southeast Asian Games have the inside track on berths in the pool, which will enjoy substantial training funds.
Apart from getting bigger allowances, the athletes will also train under foreign coaches and compete in elite overseas meets.
Among those considered as shoo-ins for the list are SEA Games record-breakers Marestella Torres and Arniel Ferrera of athletics, swimming?s Miguel Molina and billiards? Rubilen Amit.
?We?ll compare their records with those of the Asiad bronze medalists, the standard for inclusion,? said Angping, adding that the PSC will form the pool with the help of coaches and national sports associations.
?It?s my dream to see the Philippines win 10 Asiad gold medals.?
