Ishii wins men's heavweight gold

BEIJING—Satoshi Ishii of Japan won the men's +100kg judo competition at the Beijing Olympics on Friday.

He beat Abdullo Tangriev of Uzbekistan in a largely disappointing final that was decided by penalties.

Cuba's Oscar Brayson made short work of Mohammadreza Rodaki in the first bronze medal contest throwing and pinning the big Iranian for the maximum ippon score.

World champion Teddy Riner failed to make the final but claimed a consolation bronze by pinning Lasha Gujejiani of Georgia.
