MANILA, Philippines -- National Bureau of Investigation Director Nestor Mantaring said Tuesday his agency was determined to find out the ?real? story behind the Valley Golf and Country club brawl between members of the families of Agrarian Reform Secretary Nasser Pangandaman and businessman Delfin dela Paz.

?That was the explicit directive of the secretary (Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez), for the NBI to find out what really happened and to file charges if evidence warrants,? Mantaring told the Philippine Daily Inquirer, parent company of INQUIRER.net.

While shying away from the investigation of the Antipolo police, the golf club officials and caddies have reportedly agreed to provide statements to and be questioned by NBI National Capital Region director Edward Villarta on the melee.

The NBI chief pointed out that both parties have their own versions of the brawl at the Antipolo golf course involving Nasser Pangandaman Jr, the agrarian reform secretary?s son who is also mayor of Masiu, Lanao del Sur, and businessman Delfin Dela Paz along with his 14-year old son Bino.

?Witnesses to the incident would provide a clearer and unbiased look into the brawl,? he explained.

The Valley Golf and Country Club has temporarily suspended the memberships of the Pangandamans and the Dela Pazes pending the management?s own inquiry of the brawl to determine which of the members could be slapped with suspension or permanent expulsion from the exclusive sports club.
