RP junior bowlers win gold, silver in HK

MANILA, Philippines ? The country?s junior bowlers, powered by national youth team stalwart Jomar Roland Jumapao, went home with gold and silver medals in the recent 11th Asian Schools tenpin bowling championships in Hong Kong.

Jumapao, who hails from Cebu and member of Team Prima bowling club, edged his Japanese and Singaporean foes to capture the boys' singles event.

Kim Lao and Dyan Coronacio, meanwhile, ruled the girls? doubles competitions.

The 19-year-old Jumapao scored lines of 244-236-243-255-254-234 for a winning total of 1466 to beat Fukuda Takahito (1409) and Paul Henzhong Yap (1403), who placed second and third respectively.

``All the kids are in great spirits,'' said national head coach Nico Valderama. ``This shows that with enough exposure and proper guidance we can expect our young players to excel internationally.''

Lao and Coronacion combined for 2,657 to finish behind Kim Ji Yeon and Sim Ui Jin who tallied 2,746.

In girls' singles, the Philippines? Kim Lao placed fourth (1305), Krizziah Tabora fifth (1293), Madeline Llamas 7th (1266) and Alexis Sy 9th (1265). Coronacio placed 14th with 1215.

Jumapao and Kenneth Chua rolled 1,375 in the boys? doubles to end up seventh overall.
