Pierse breaks records in 200-m breaststroke

MONTREAL -- Annamay Pierse shattered the Canadian record and posted the third fastest time in history by winning the 200-meter breaststroke at the Canadian swimming world championship trials Friday.

Pierse clocked a two minutes, 20.71 seconds to surpass her previous best of 2:23.77 set at the Beijing Olympics.

She missed the world record by just 0.49 seconds and posted the fastest time in the world so far.

The competition includes 32 individual events and six relay events and is being used to select Canada's swim team that will compete in the Worlds scheduled for July 19 to August 2.
