MANILA, Philippines ? Boxing has found its way into a school-based league as a demonstration sport.

The NCAA South agreed to include amateur boxing in the calendar of the league?s 11th season which begins on August 29 at the San Pablo Colleges in Laguna.

?This is the first time boxing will be included in a school-based league,? said Noli Eala, this year?s NCAA South policy board chair.

The NCAA and the UAAP are also currently finalizing plans to include the sport in their respective calendars.

Eala said amateur boxing was set sometime next month with the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (Abap)providing workshops aside from the training and selection of boxers for the event.

?Abap officials assured us that all safety measures for the athletes will be in place,? said Eala. ?On the part of the NCAA South, this will certainly generate interest and contribute to the development of the sport.?
