Valdes tops clay shooting tourney

MANILA, Philippines ? Over 40 participants competed in the 75 Clay Tournament at the Goma Sport Range in Taytay, Rizal recently.

The event, organized by the Philippine Sporting Clays Association and sanctioned by the sport?s world governing body, FITASC (Fédération Internationale de Tir aux Armes Sportives de Chasse), drew a host of competitors in what served as a preliminary to the Philippine Open in October.

The three-category tournament was topped by Joey Valdes, who emerged as overall champion by tallying 65 out of a possible 75 points. Enrique Enriquez, Richard Gomez and Ariel Santos occupied the top three spots of the open division with scores of 64, 63 and 63, respectively. Tet Lara, Javi Valdes, Sherwin Topacio, Rene San Juan, Jose Paolo Soler, Nicki Laconico and Carlo Garcia rounded out the top 10.

In the seniors division, Luis Lee took home top honors with 58 points, followed by Arthur Tuazon and Herman de los Santos. Carlos Domingues, meanwhile, ruled the veterans? class with 62 points, with Ed Mijarez and Nestor de Castro following him.
