MANILA, Philippines - Players from varsity leagues NCAA and UAAP will be playing alongside each other in a charity game on October 5 at the Araneta Coliseum.
Dubbed ?Pinoy Basketball, Kakampi Nyo!?, the NCAA-UAAP selection team will go up against the PBL-Liga Pilipinas selection at 5 p.m.
?Our players would be playing side by side with the UAAP players to raise funds for the typhoon victims,? NCAA management committee chair Jose Mari Lacson told INQUIRER.net via phone Thursday.
Mapua?s Mark Sarangay, Allan Mangahas, TG Guillermo, Macky Acosta and College of St. Benilde?s MC Abolucion, Marc de Guzman, Anjelo Montecastro, and Jan Tan will represent the NCAA, Lacson said.
From the UAAP, those confirmed to play include Joshua Webb of La Salle, Woody Co of UP, and Julius Colina of Adamson. The UAAP is yet to release its final line-up for the game, said Mark Molina, tournament director.
In a text message to INQUIRER.net, Genny Marcial, corporate communication officer of the Araneta Center, said that they are waiving the rent of the coliseum so that all of the proceeds would be given to the typhoon victims.
Lacson said the NCAA donated 10 sacks of rice through ABS-CBN foundation. He also said that donation boxes can be found at the Arena for tomorrow?s game.
?We?ll be putting up boxes around the Arena tomorrow so we?re asking for shoes or slippers or anything that they can give for the victims, and we?ll be bringing them to Araneta on Monday,? he said.
The NCAA will also resume juniors and seniors basketball games Friday. Mapua will face Angeles University Foundation preceding the much-awaited game between San Beda College and Letran at 4 p.m.
