Playmaker Carlos Arroyo signs with Miami Heat

MIAMI ? Carlos Arroyo, a seven-year NBA veteran from Puerto Rico who played last season for Maccabi Tel Aviv, has signed a free agent deal with the Miami Heat, the NBA club announced Monday.

Arroyo, who helped power Puerto Rico to an unprecedented win over a US team of NBA stars at the 2004 Athens Olympics, played in 28 games last season for the Israeli club, averaging 15.3 points, 5.8 assists and 3.7 rebounds.

The 30-year-old guard who played locally in college at Florida International last played in the NBA with Orlando from 2005 through 2008.

He has played in 433 NBA regular-season games with Toronto, Denver, Utah, Detroit and Orlando and established career averages of 7.0 points, 3.3 assists and 1.7 rebounds a game.
