KDJM racing festival on at SLLP

MANILA, Philippines ? Three imports and local entry Oh Wacky slug it out in the eighth running of the P1.5 million Derby today, the centerpiece event of the Klub Don Juan de Manila Racing Festival at the San Lazaro Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite.

Bitbo and My Hope, fillies coming off impressive recent performances, are the favored entries in the 2,000-meter race that offers a handsome prize of P900,000 to the winner.

Red Carpet rounds out the compact field in the featured event of the program that will also include the Golden Girls? Stakes and the Juvenile championships. Holy Ridge, the winner last year, will not be around to defend the Derby title.

Ms. Abby Kat heads the Golden Girls? field which will fight it out over 1,750 meters. Other entries in this event are Weder Weder Lang, Traditional, Fairy Queen, Santeria, Best of Both Worlds, Tiger is Ready and Fierce Fighter.

Meanwhile, entries coming from the dominant Hermie Esguerra stables are heavily favored to rule the Juvenile Colts? and Fillies? championships set over 1,400 meters.

Gastambide is picked in the Colts? race, while Azcarraga is favored to rule the Fillies category.
