UAAP: Ateneo puts away UST, La Salle dumps UE

MANILA, Philippines ? (UPDATE) The Ateneo de Manila University and the De La Salle University kept pace with each other as they dumped their respective foes at the UAAP men's basketball tournament Sunday.

The Eagles poured it on in the fourth quarter to put away the University of Sto. Tomas, 68-56, while the Archers shot down the University of the East, 82-63, in the second game.

The archrivals are tied with a 2-1 win-loss record behind idle Far Eastern University who is unbeaten at 2-0.

After three tight quarters that saw at least 11 lead changes, the Eagles, behind Justin Chua, finally showed why they were the defending champions as they shut down the Tigers going into the last half of the fourth quarter.

Chua scored 17 points, hauled down 11 rebounds, and made 4 blocks to power the Eagles to their second win against a loss. Ateneo lost to FEU in their opening game but bounced back to defeat Adamson University.
Meanwhile, the Tigers have a 1-1 record, with their win coming off against the UE Red Warriors.

The Archers led from the first quarter that started with Simon Atkins' three-point bomb and never looked back.

They led by as much as 21 points in the fourth, with Alvin Villanueva topscoring for the Archers with 16 points and Philip Paredes providing the muscle with 8 rebounds and 6 blocks aside from his 10-point output.
UE joined the University of the Philippines at the bottom of the team standings with 0-2.
