MANILA, Philippines ? (UPDATE) Defending women's champion Rubilen Amit and Allison Fisher of Great Britain hurdled their respective opponents on the first day of the Yalin?s World 10-ball Championship on Monday.

Amit got off to a hot start and never looked back to down Angel Paglia, 6-3, at the tournament at Robinson's Galleria.

Amit, one of six Filipinos participating in the event, raced to a 2-O rack lead and looked well on her way toward an easy victory.

Paglia of the United States had a chance to knot the match in the eighth rack but missed on the ninth ball as Amit went on to take the final two racks.

Fisher turned back Mirjan Grujici of Venezuela, 6-2, in the other match.

Fisher pounced on a crucial error to take her first victory after Gruciji's shot missed the eight ball on the seventh rack.

Gruciji barely threatened to storm near Fisher after going as close as 2-1.
