CEBUANO paralympians Arnold Balais and Roselyn Ocampo won two silvers and two bronze medals each in the 4th Para Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) Games in Nakhon Ratchasima in Thailand.

The RP Team finished in fifth place overall with 19 gold medals, 21 silvers and 21 bronze medals and fell one notch lower from its fourth place finish in the 2005 Games in Manila where the Pinoys harvested 22 golds, 42 silvers and 40 bronzes.

Balais, and amputee swimmer and the polio victim Ocampo, hauled one silver and a bronze apiece in swimming and athletics wheelchair contest respectively.

Balais who arrived in Cebu yesterday, finished second to a Vietnamese swimmer in the 100m butterfly event and collected a bronze in the 4X50m freestyle relay alongside Arnel Aba, Eric Villanueva and Resty Tagorda.

Balais, who will see action in the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing China, also came close to podium finishes in the 50m butterfly (4th) and 50m freestyle (5th).

The team’s participation in the Thailand event served as its preparation for the 2008 Paralympic Games.
