Both Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan and Z “The Dream” Gorres gave bold predictions the first time they met yesterday during the final press conference of their “Now or Never” showdown this Saturday at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel here.
“It will be sweet dream for him,” said the highly-confident Darchinyan, reiterating his earlier prediction to knock Gorres out in their scheduled 12-rounder.
Although he has admitted to liking the Filipino hospitality, Darchinyan says he feels sorry as he will put Gorres to sleep when the bell rings this Saturday for their IBF superflyweight eliminator.
Gorres, however, remains unfazed by the swagger of the visiting foe.
“It's gonna be a nightmare for him,” said the normally reticent Mandaue fighter, dapper in his ALA jacket and eyes hidden behind dark Dickies sunglasses.
Promoter Gary Shaw and international matchmaker non-pareil Sampson Lewkowicz both thanked each other for the deal that was sealed even without a written contract, agreeing that words are enough to seal a deal between real gentlemen.
Event promoter Michael Aldeguer, for his part, assured the fans of a great night of boxing, stating that Gorres is fully prepared for whatever the tough-talking Darchinyan brings to the table.
Also present at yesterday's press conference were Solar top exec Ralph Roy, ALA Gym's Dennis Canete and Edito Villamor, Las Vegas-based Tony Martin, and Team Darchinyan members Elias Nasser, Billy Hussein and Hussein Hussein.
It was a classy and well-prepared press conference, with some visiting mediamen comparing it to the press conferences of big-time events in Las Vegas.
Also in attendance were judges Montol Suriyachand of Thailand and the Philippines' Jonathan Davis. Australian judge Cec Perkins was slated to fly in last night along with supervisor Ray Wheatley and referee Lance Revill.
The Aldeguers, led by sportsman Antonio L. Aldeguer with his family, will tender a special dinner to visiting personalities tonight at the posh Maria Luisa Village residence of the host family.
Official weigh-in takes place on Friday, 7PM at the Coral Room of the Waterfront Hotel, while undercard weigh-in takes place 9AM at the GAB office in Cebu.
