Wesley Wilson made his presence felt in both ends of the floor, leading the Sta. Lucia Realtors to an impressive 93-86 win over the Alaska Aces yesterday in the 33rd PBA Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.
Wilson scored a team-high 24 points, hauled down 13 rebounds and swatted six attempts as the Realtors' bid for back-to-back titles took off to a high note.
Wilson patrolled the paint effectively, denying the Aces from making easy layups while delivering crucial points for the Realtors, who clawed back from several deficits.
The Realtors took an 11-4 lead early but Alaska's new acquisitions—Larry Fonacier and LA Tenorio—sparked a mighty run for the Aces to build a 47-34 lead in the 5:12 mark of the second period.
Alaska failed to sustain its momentum after Sta. Lucia closed the first half with an 11-1 tear and cut its deficit to just three points at the half, 45-48.
Alaska built another double digit lead at the start of the third when it strung up eight unanswered points but the Realtors diffused the rally with a 13-4 run and inched closer at 58-60.
The Aces were up at the start of the fourth, 68-67, but Marlou Aquino and Joseph Yeo combined for five straight points, giving the Realtors the lead for good, 72-68.
Behind Wilson, Sta. Lucia played solid defense for the remainder of the game, forcing the Aces into a maze of errors to seal the come-from-behind victory.
Giving Wilson the needed support were Kelly Williams and Yeo, who tallied 17 and 14 points, respectively. /CORRESPONDENT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
