Cebu will be introduced to the paddle sport of kayaking come May 21 to 25 when the Bugsay 2008: 1st National Kayaking Festival commences at the South Road Properties (SRP).

The event, which aims to celebrate and promote the relatively unknown sport to Cebu, will have a kayaking clinic, a boat exhibit and a competition for paddlers of different ages and levels.

The competition has two events, namely the 300-meter sprint and the 3-kilometer marathon race, which will be participated in by two divisions composed of three classes each.

The two divisions are the open and the novice and will have the men's doubles, the women's doubles and the mixed doubles.

In addition, the Cebu Kayaking Club will also be launched. The club was founded in 2005 and aims to promote the sport with clinics every weekend at the Karancho Beach Resort in Mactan.

Proceeds from the said activities will be pooled in hopes of building a kayaking school and facility on the island. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
