(Cebu Coliseum)
1:30 p.m. - Act vs. Don Bosco
The on and off Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras limited the Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) Skyblazers to just 10 points in the fourth quarter to post a 94-76 triumph on Monday in the 1st M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Summer Basketball Tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.
The win continued the Cobras' loss-win-loss-win trend as they evened their record to 2-2.
The Cobras had to work hard in the fourth to terminate the determined Skyblazers, who got a chance to steal the game despite a slow start.
SWU zoomed to an early 29-17 advantage but their lead was reduced to nine at the half, 50-41.
The Skyblazers gave the Cobras a huge scare in the third when they staged a 25-18 run that cut their deficit to just two, 66-68, with one quarter left.
The Cobras avoided disaster when they recovered their rhythm in the fourth, pulling out a 26-10 scoring advantage to ice the win.
Eric Zanoria led the way for the Cobras with 30 points, while Elliud Poligrates also came up with a big game with his 25 markers.
Alfred Belande added 17 for SWU, which bounced back from a 84-78 loss to the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars last Sunday.
The Cobras suffered an 92-88 loss to the Asian College of Technology (Act) Cyber Knights in their first outing before atoning themselves from that loss with a close 77-75 win over the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors last May 21.
The hard-luck Skyblazers remained winless in four games.
Another lone match takes place today at the same venue with the unbeaten Cyber Knights (2-0) going up against the Don Bosco College (DBC) Greywolves (1-1).
