PBA: Williams, Se face possible suspensions

MANILA, Philippines—Sta. Lucia Realty star Kelly Williams and Air21 center Homer Se face possible suspensions on top of fines for figuring in a fight during the Realtors-Express game in the Smart-PBA Fiesta Conference last Sunday.

Executive director Rickie Santos said the two have been summoned by commissioner Sonny Barrios to explain their sides on Tuesday as a result of their third-quarter clash that marred the Express' 95-93 overtime triumph over the Realtors at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Williams touched off the skirmish by sneaking in a punch at Air21 guard Wynne Arboleda during a loose-ball scramble with 4:47 minutes left in the period.

As the two players disputed possession on the floor, Se planted a knee on Williams' face, then hit Ryan Reyes as the rookie Realtor guard tried to pull the Express veteran out of the fray.

Se, who escaped with only a flagrant foul, will report to league officials at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Williams, slapped with a technical foul for second motion, will give his account an hour later.

Meanwhile, Air21 guard Gary David earned the Player of the Week citation from the Smart/Accel-PBA Press Corps for his resurgent form in the Express' back-to-back wins recently.

"It was Gary who actually made the difference in our offense," said coach Bo Perasol, after the Express climbed to 8-5 for a share of second place with Red Bull.

David, who struggled early in the conference due to injuries, flashed his old deadly form by firing 20 points in the Express' 119-109 win against the Barako last Wednesday.

Sustaining his rhythm four days later, the 6-foot-3 shooter came up with 24 points in a 95-93 overtime escape over the Realtors.

"He was seemingly going through the motion, no fire and intensity (early in the conference), but it could be that he was still feeling his way around," said Perasol.
