Mayol guns for RP light fly crown today

TWO-TIME world title challenger Rodel Mayol will aim to win the vacant Philippine light-flyweight title today against little-known Ardin Diale in far-flung Puerto Galera, Mindoro Oriental.

Mayol, once considered as the country's best world title prospect, had flubbed two world title tries, and will most likely fight tonight without the presence of his manager superstar Manny Pacquiao, who is busy haggling for a 60-40 share in a proposed fight with Oscar De la Hoya.

Diale will come into the fight as a huge underdog, but may spring a surprise owing to the hometown crowd, not to mention being the busier fighter between the two. Diale saw action four times last year, while Mayol was on the ring just once.

Mayol, however, is considered way above in terms of skills and experience over the newcomer Diale.

The event will be covered by television program Saved by the Bell of young businessman Elmer Anuran.

The rest of the bouts for today's event pit the following: Jonel Alivio versus Richard Agagad; Vincent Palicte versus Jongjong Gagante; Jonard Abonales versus Romnick Dejano; Roberto Gonzales against Jessie Caballes; Marvin Alegria versus Albert Calaus; and Rex Olisa versus Bart Camitan.
