For his stellar efforts in leading the resurgence of the seven-time champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, 6-foot-11 Fil-American center Gregory Slaughter has earned himself the prestigious Cesafi Player of the Week award for the second week of action in men?s basketball.
After losing to the upstart Warriors of the University of San Carlos (USC) in their first game, the Lancers are quickly coming into form and are now showing the dominance that have made them the standard for collegiate basketball in the south.
They have now won three games in a row and are at solo second-place with a 3-1 (win-loss) record.
At the helm of that charge has been Slaughter, who has been nothing short of unstoppable, averaging 20.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2 assists and six blocks per game from August 10 to 16.
After being held to just 12 points in a win over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, the behemoth scored 22 in a 76-66 win over the Don Bosco Greywolves before coming up with 19 markers in another 92-59 shellacking of the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras.
Slaughter amassed a total of 110 statistical points, beating the likes of Jaguars Armand Ponce, Manny Gabas and last week's Player of the Week, Luther Justiniani and his teammates, Von Lanete and Junjun Lasala.
Slaughter will be getting a medal and a gift pack from Virginia Foods Inc. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
