GAMES TODAY:
Cebu Coliseum
1 p.m. - UV vs. CEC (jrs.)
2:30 p.m. - UC vs. DBC (jrs.)
4 p.m. - UV vs. CIT (srs.)
5:30 p.m. - USJ-R vs. USPF (srs.)

The quarterfinal cast is finally complete.

The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters claimed the fourth spot and the last twice-to-beat incentive following their 91-63 win over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers in the last day of the elimination round of the Cesafi basketball tournament yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.

Although the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras also logged a lopsided 93-67 victory over the Don Bosco Greywolves to put them into a tie with the Webmasters with similar 4-3 (win-loss) records, they will still fall to fifth spot by virtue of UC’s win over the Cobras in the elimination round.

The game was all but decided early on in the first period as Webmaster gunner Jannsen Abella waxed hot from the field and poured in 10 of his game-high 24 points to help UC take a 26-8 lead.

6-foot-7 behemoth Junmar Fajardo also dominated the shaded lane with 18 points and nine boards while rookie Edward Pao submitted a double-double performance with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The Cobras, on the other hand, leaned on the steady performance of their veteran players to carve out the rout over the Greywolves.

Forward Clifford Maguate totaled 21 points, 11 coming in a dominating third period performance and added eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks to end the Cobras' elimination round campaign on a high note.

The Webmasters and the Cobras commence their quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday with a twinbill that also features the third-ranked University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors against the sixth-seed Don Bosco Greywolves.

The top-ranked University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers will be starting their bid to reach their eighth straight finals when they take on the winless Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) Wildcats at the start of the quarterfinals today. The second-seeded University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars will also take on the seventh-seeded USPF Panthers.

Meanwhile, the UV Baby Lancers finished off their elimination round assignments in the juniors division with a 114-57 thrashing of the USC Baby Warriors.

They will battle the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons in the quarterfinals today.

CEC suffered the league's worst loss this year, as they fell to the USPF Baby Panthers by a whopping 63 points, 47-110, yesterday.

The second-seeded UC Baby Webmasters will take on the DBC Greywolves in the other quarterfinal matchup.
