THE six-man RP team harvested five golds, six silvers and three bronze medals in the 13th Asian Women, 21st Asian Men and 10th Asian Youth Boys and Girls Weightlifting Championships held from Dec. 1 to 9 in Jeonju, Korea.
Cebuana Kelly Kaye Rojas of the University of Cebu led the Pinoys? rampage with three gold medals which she bagged in the snatch, clean and jerk and total in the 44 kilograms division of the youth championships.
Her accomplishment was followed by Zamboanga City's Hidilyn Diaz who collected two gold medals in the clean and jerk and total and a silver in the snatch of the 58 kgs division, still in the youth championships.
Diaz was the Philippine's lone representative in the recent Olympics in Beijing, China, where she was coached by Cebu's Ramon Solis.
Accounting for the remaining three silver medals was Nestor Colonia, also of Zamboanga City, which he bagged in the snatch, clean and jerk and total in the 56 kgs division, also in the youth division.
Rounding up the medal count with three bronze medals was Angelica Lado, another Cebuana, of the University of San Jose Recoletos. Lado grabbed her medals in the snatch, clean and jerk and total in the 75+ kgs of the junior championships.
Rojas and Lado both belong to the Alino Integrated Services, a weighlifting club in Cebu City.
Other members of the team were Jaymie Mendoza of Zamboanga and Patricia Llena of Manila.
The team was coached by Alfoncito Aldanete while Dioscoro Himotas headed the delegation. /Copyeditor Mars Alison
