CdO smashers rule Bigwave badminton

CAGAYAN de Oro?s smashers emerged big winners in the Bigwave Productions Badminton Challenge 2009 held last weekend at the Portside Badminton Plaza at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.

Ronald Daymiel and Ebenezer Quizol led the winning spree as they upset hometown bets Clint Armamento and Dromar Gabao to emerge champions in the men's doubles A and B division.

The champions received P12,000 for their triumph in levels A and B while Armamento and Gabao received P7,000 for their runner-up finish.

Daymiel tried to win another title along with Caryl Caldoza but fell short in the mixed doubles levels A and B after being defeated by Jed Sumalinog and Geryl Aliwate of Cebu.

JR and Mark Anthony Bergantin from Cebu ruled the men?s doubles level C after beating fellow Cebuanos Loiujay Benid and Franco Senor.

The Bergantin's walked away with P10,000 cash prize while P6,000 went to Benid and Senor.

Caryl Caldoza and Eng Eng Tenoco won the title in the women's doubles level C while Jobelyn and Bengkie settled for runner-up honors.

Cebuanos Erwin Arquillano and Janel Dihansan dominated the mixed doubles C after winning over Franco Senor and Lelia Tampon.

Meanwhile, Christian Sartorio and Raymund Ang also of Cagayan De Oro won the men?s doubles D title after beating Cebu?s Bimbo Arradaza and Jay Ryan Requena. Hanna Lozada and Nessie Benitez of Tacloban, on the other hand, beat Cebu?s Cherry Tan and Luana Lawian for the women's doubles D crown.

Other winners were Christian Sartorio and Vicky Buen (mixed doubles D), Tonton Abaday and Egay Saceda of Cagayan De Oro (men?s doubles E), Desiree Lim and Christine Labay of Cagayan De Oro (women?s doubles E), Jason Uy and Delyn Reyes of Cebu (mixed doubles E), Roland Cam and Jonas Sorote of Cagayan De Oro (men?s doubles F), Thrisha Ceniza and Lailani Arriesgado from Cebu (women?s doubles F), and Ladd Cabrera and Kathlyn Arevalo of Cebu (mixed doubles F). /Correspondent Dale Rosal
