Dumaguete City—It has a slim chance of winning the overall title but the Mandaue City delegation is not ready to give up and is still contented with its performance in the 2009 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) meet.
According to Mandaue City division sports coordinator, Adelyn Luarez, the team came not only to win but also to be exposed in competitive sports.
But 13-year-old Jessie James Villegas had other things in mind.
Villegas got a shock of his life after ruling the triple jump in the elementary division with a distance of 10.78 meters.
His efforts put Mandaue 7th in the elementary division, accumulating a total of 19 points. It is also at 4th place in the secondary division after collecting a total of 53 points after the third day.
Villegas said that he never expected to win, being a neophyte in the sport.
“Until now, di pa nako ma feel nga ako gyud ang nakadaog kay mga tag-as kaayo akong mga kontra. Sige sad ko kapildi sa akong ubang events,” Villegas said.
In the secondary division, Daniel Noval collected two gold medals in the 100 and 200-meter runs.
In Arnis, Fiona Marie Mendoza won two golds in the single and double stick events while Donald Comendador Jr. won in the bantamweight and Angel Aguanta in the girls bantamweight event.
CEBU CITY STILL UP
