JOSE RIZAL SHOOTS FOR A PIECE OF the lead today when the Bombers collide with winless Emilio Aguinaldo College in the 85th NCAA basketball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Gametime is at 4 p.m. with the Bombers heavily favored to secure their third straight victory and join San Sebastian on top.
Clashing in the 2 p.m. encounter are Angeles University Foundation and a Mapua side still in search of its first victory.
Last year’s losing finalist to San Beda, JRU hopes to ride the momentum of its 83-58 drubbing of Perpetual Help last Friday in a game where center James Sena tallied 14 points, a season-high 17 rebounds and eight assists.
The Bombers overcame the Letran Knights, 69-66, for their first victory, but coach Ariel Vanguardia expects more consistency from his squad.
Although the Generals are coming off back-to-back losses, Vanguardia said the Bombers should not take them lightly.
“We have to keep our focus,” said Vanguardia. “Sustaining our composure every game would be vital in our campaign.”
The Bombers, who will be led by Sena and JM Wilson, are seeking their first crown since 1972.
The Pampanga-based Great Danes are hoping to follow up their 86-75 conquest of the Generals last Monday.
“We hope our first win in the NCAA would be a start of something big for us,” AUF coach Eric Gascon said.
Aaron Santos, who scored 29 points against the Generals, and Fil-Am power forward Matt Carney are expected to fuel the Danes’ drive.
