USLS wallops Ateneo, bags PCSO crown

UNIVERSITY OF ST. LA SALLE-BACOLOD matched the first-stage feat of multititled Far Eastern U by topping the second stage of the PCSO Invitational Women?s Inter-Collegiate Beach Volleyball Challenge at the Cantada Sports Center in Taguig City on Sunday.

April Ross Hingpit and Patty Jane Orendain conquered Ateneo?s Asia Urquico and Jessica Morado, 21-9, in the finals of the dual tourney.

FEU?s Camille Abanto and Marigail Tolentino turned back University of Mindanao-Tagum?s Lourdilyn Catubag and Karen Quilarion, 21-14, 21-18, in the first stage finals.

?They were determined to compete here despite the bad weather during the weekend,? said Edgardo ?Boy? Cantada of the organizing Joe Cantada Sports. ?And we?re glad they gave us fine beach volleyball.?

The other teams in the by-invitation-only tournament, backed by Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Toyota-Otis, Toyota-Balintawak, Tanduay, Lucio Tan Jr., Mapecon and ZestAir were Ateneo de Davao, Central Philippine University, Iloilo, University of the East, Letran, Adamson, World Citi Colleges and University of the Philippines.

All participants were housed at the world-class Cantada Sports Center.
