MANILA, Philippines ? Jose Rizal University playmaker Marc Cagoco picked the right time to put questions on his shot selection on hold, at least for now.

Proving he?s also a clutch player, Cagoco stepped up with a season-high 19 points to power the Bombers past defending champion San Beda College, 77-64, Wednesday in the NCAA basketball tournament.

Cagoco did most of the damage in the last four minutes, scoring 10 in a 14-4 run to help the Bombers avenge their first round loss to the Lions.

He took charge with a couple of triples, including a stepback jumper with 1:50 left that put the Bombers firmly in control, 74-52.

?A lot of people might hate him because he misses a lot of shots, but he?s the kind of player you would either hate or love,? JRU coach Ariel Vanguardia said of Cagoco, who earned the NCAA Press Corps Accel/FilOil Player of the Week for his performance.

?He really saved us in this game.?

Cagoco, who averages 11.3 points per game, is the third player from JRU to win the weekly award, succeeding John Lopez and John Wilson.
