ASIDE FROM WIPING OUT THE sporting schedule last weekend, Tropical Storm ?Ondoy? also caused considerable damage to the Ninoy Aquino Stadium and the Rizal Coliseum at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex on Vito Cruz, Manila.

Waist-deep waters submerged and damaged the wooden flooring of both facilities at the height of Ondoy on Saturday, according to commissioner Vic Uy of the Philippine Sports Commissioner yesterday.

Other venues that sustained slight damage were the badminton hall, gymnastics, tennis courts, athletes? dormitories, PSC administration building and the media center.

?I?m sure it [the total repairs] will run to millions,? said Uy, who has been designated officer-in-charge by PSC chair Harry Angping, who left for Hong Kong yesterday on official business. ?But the priority right now is to refurbish the flooring of the two venues (RMC and NAS) as soon as practical.?

PSC resident auditor Mario Lipana estimated the renovation cost for the flooring of the Ninoy Aquino Stadium and the Rizal Coliseum alone to be about P10 million.

The 15th Asian Men?s Senior Volleyball Championship, originally set at Rizal Memorial, was moved to the nearby San Andres Sports Complex.

?Except for [NAS] and Rizal, the rest of the facilities are functional,? added Uy.
