SAN BEDA tries to repeat over fierce rival Letran and bolster its bid for the top spot in the NCAA men?s basketball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Lions shoot for solo second against the fourth-running Knights at 4 p.m. hoping to duplicate their 79-74 conquest of their fired-up foes in the first round.
?It?s going to be a big game for us,? said San Beda coach Frankie Lim. ?Letran will play with a lot of confidence after a big win against San Sebastian.
?We have to match their intensity, limit our turnovers, control the boards.?
The Knights, sparked by national team members RJ Jazul and Rey Guevarra, pulled off the biggest upset yet of the season with a surprise 80-63 rout that snapped the Stags? record 15-game winning streak last Friday.
Eliminated teams Mapua and Angeles University Foundation collide at 2 p.m., right after a pair of junior matches pitting the Robins and the Junior Danes at 10 a.m. and the Red Cubs and the Squires at 11:45.
With the Knights assured of a Final Four berth, coach Louie Alas sees the match against the Lions as a chance to enhance their stature as a title contender.
?There?s still a big possibility that we might face San Beda in the Final Four, so we have to make an impression that we can match up well against them,? he said.
The Lions, tied with idle Jose Rizal U at 14-2, remain just a game behind the 15-1 record of the league-leading Stags.
Only the top two squads at the end of the eliminations will secure the twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.
The Knights boosted their record to 12-5 following the big win against the Stags that saw Jazul and Guevarra firing 27 points each.
?They?re the heart and soul of this team and they showed that in our game against San Sebastian,? said Alas.
Meanwhile, the league started its own relief efforts to help the victims of Tropical Storm ?Ondoy.?
?We?re passing the hat for donations,? said management committee chair Jose Mari Lacson.
The league, he said, will set up donation boxes at the game venue.
