RP’s GM So finishes 4th to 6th places in Spice chess

FILIPINO teen chess grandmaster Wesley So (2644) on Wednesday drew his final match against Russian GM Dmitry Andreikin (2659) after 18 moves of Sicilian Defense to finish in a three-way tie for 4th to 6th places at the six-man 2009 Susan Polgar Institute Chess for Excellence (SPICE) Cup Chess Championship at the Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

So who will turn 16 on Oct. 9 finished with 4.5 points, the same output of Norwegian GM Jon Ludvig Hammer (2585) and American GM Varuzhan Akobian (2636).

Andreikin, on the other hand scored 5.5 points the same score of Ukrainian GM Yuriy Kuzubov (2636) and Azerbaijan GM Rauf Mamedov (2626) to rule the event.

The three players faced each other again in the play off to determine the Spice Cup champion. Kuzubov notched 2.5 points to clinch the title followed by Andreikin with 2.0 points and Mamedov with 1.5 points.
