UST leads Manila Unigames charge

THERE WAS NO LETUP for Manila-based schools on the final day of the 14th UniGames Friday with University of Santo Tomas scoring a twin kill in volleyball at the Central Philippine University Gym in Iloilo City.

The UST Tigresses handily beat UAAP rival La Salle, 25-11, 25-23, 25-18, before the school?s men?s squad overpowered Cebu?s University of San Jose-Recoletos, 25-14, 25-12, 23-25, 25-21.

UST, which ruled athletics earlier in the week, remains in the hunt for a fourth team title with its women?s football squad set to clash with defending champion La Salle, the team the Tigresses beat for the UAAP crown early this year.

Far Eastern U collected its third title in the week-long meet after its women?s basketball team got back at UAAP finals tormentor Adamson.

Just a month after losing in the UAAP finals, the Lady Tamaraws hacked out a 79-77 victory over the Lady Falcons yesterday.

FEU had earlier topped men?s table tennis and women?s chess.

Defending men?s basketball champion Ateneo, also the reigning UAAP titlist, was to play St. Francis of Assisi for the crown yesterday.

St. Benilde remained on track for a five title haul, thanks to its men?s football team, which was set to clash with Visayas powerhouse West Negros University in the finals at the CPU pitch.

The Blazers swept men and women?s tennis and also copped the crowns in women?s table tennis and men?s chess.

La Salle-Dasmariñas and University of Southern Philippines Foundation split the beach volleyball crowns in Tigbauan town.

La Salle?s April Almaden and Jennifer Manzano smashed the University of the East duo of Jimberley Dizon and Mary Ann Balmeda, 21-11, 21-16.

USPF?s Johnny Opone and Edward Ybanez proved too strong for Foundation University?s Alester Dugaduga and Buensuceso Sayson, 21-15, 21-14, in an all-Central Visayas final.
