MANILA, Philippines--Ateneo and Adamson proved its dominance in college basketball is not limited to the UAAP.

Hardly showing any championship hangover, the Blue Eagles dumped St. Francis of Assisi College, 75-66, Friday to retain their men’s basketball title in the 14th University Games before a huge crowd in Pototan town, Iloilo.

In a rematch of the UAAP finals, the Lady Falcons repeated over Far Eastern U, 79-77, in overtime behind the heroics of Kat Sandel and Fria Bernardo.

Ateneo posted a seven-game sweep en route to its only title in this year’s Games. One of those victories came against UAAP rival Far Eastern U in the semifinals.

The victory in women’s basketball allowed Adamson to finish the week-long games with two titles, counting its win in softball.

University of Santo Tomas grabbed its fourth team title after the Tigresses nipped La Salle, 1-0, for its second women’s football crown in three years at the Sta. Barbara pitch.

Visayas powerhouse West Negros University took the men’s football crown with a 2-0 shutout of St. Benilde in the finals at the Central Philippine University field.

WNU was just the third non-Manila team to win a title in this year’s edition of the games.

All told, the Big City schools captured a total of 20 crowns with UST, Rizal Technological University and St. Benilde winning four apiece. Cedelf P. Tupas
